Photo by Mae Mu on Unsplash

Today is National Waffle Day, and who doesn’t love waffles? So get out your waffle irons and get ready to make some amazing waffles with this recipe! To make things even more fun, we have some great ways to take your waffles to the next level!

Waffle Recipe

To make your waffle batter you will need:

2 eggs

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 ¾ cups milk

½ cup vegetable oil

1 tablespoon white sugar

4 teaspoons baking powder

¼ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon vanilla extract

To get started you will first need to preheat your waffle iron. Next, make your batter. Begin by beating your eggs in a large bowl with a hand beater until fluffy. Then beat in your milk, vegetable oil, sugar, baking powder, salt, and vanilla until smooth.

Next, spray your preheated waffle iron with nonstick cooking spray. Pour your mix into the iron and cook until golden brown. Enjoy!

And to make things a little more fun, here are 5 add-ins and extras to revamp your waffle:

1- Strawberries are a great way to add an extra layer to your waffles! They also go great with a bit of whipped cream!

2- Putting M&M's or chocolate chips in your batter before making your waffles is a perfect treat for chocolate lovers!

3- Peanut butter and bananas are a sweet and healthier alternative topping for your waffles that is sure to please!

4- For a nice combination between sweet and savory... lay two pieces of bacon in your waffle iron just before adding in your batter! Top with maple syrup if you want!

5- Adding a handful of berries into your waffle batter before cooking your waffles is another healthier upgrade for your meal!

Happy National Waffle Day!
