Three healthy and delicious drinks to keep cool in the summer

Summertime can get hot, so why not cool off and stay hydrated with some of these delicious homemade summer drinks! Here are three great options that will surely be a hit with the kids (and adults). Plus, blended drinks are a great way to sneak in some extra fruits or veggies that your kids might not normally want to eat!

Drink 1- Strawberry Slush

This first drink is a healthier take on the classic slushie! What is so great about this recipe is that it is sweetened naturally with fruit juice rather than high fructose corn syrup. To prepare this drink you will just need:

  • A Blender

  • 2 Cups of Pineapple Juice

  • 1 Cup of Club Soda

  • 2 Cups Frozen Strawberries

  • 1 Cup Ice

Next, blend all of the ingredients together until slushy until combined. Serve and enjoy!

Drink II- Watermelon Lemonade

This refreshing drink is perfect for a hot summer day! What makes this drink amazing is that it is a fun new twist on classic lemonade. It is quick, easy, and sure to be a crowd pleaser! To prepare this drink you will just need:

  • 1/3 Cup Lemon Juice

  • 1/3 Cup Water

  • 1/3 Cup Honey

  • 1 Stalk of Mint Leaves (Optional)

  • 2 Cups Cubed Watermelon

  • 1 Cup Ice Cubes

First you will need to mix together the lemon juice, water, and honey in a saucepan over medium low heat until the honey dissolves! Then, lightly crush up your mint leaves, still leaving them attached to the stem, and add to the saucepan, stir until things start to smell minty. Turn the stove off and let the mixture cool down. (If you are in a rush, you can quickly cool this mixture down by sticking it in the fridge or freezer for a bit.)

Next, add your watermelon and ice cubes into a blender. Blend together until the mixture is slushy. Now, get your honey lemon syrup mixture, remove the stem of mint leaves, and pour the rest into the blender. Blend gently to mix. Serve and enjoy!

Drink III- Hydration Punch

This final summer beverage will keep everyone hydrated after a long summer day under the sun! This drink is great because it keeps you hydrated while also being delicious and sometimes can be more appealing to a child over just a cool glass of plain water! And this drink doesn't have the same artificial flavors or sweeteners that lots of sports drinks do. To prepare this drink you will just need:

  • 3 Cups Coconut Water

  • 1 Cup Apple Juice

  • 1 Cup Ice

  • 1/8 Teaspoon Salt

  • 1 Tablespoon Honey

Next just add these ingredients to a blender and blend on high power for 1 minute! Feel free to add a squeeze of orange or lime as well. Serve and enjoy!
