It's almost Summertime - warm weather, long days, and more fun in the sun! Whether you spend all day at the beach, a few hours at the parks, or have a day indoors you need sun protection. Sunburns can cause permanent damage to the skin, not to mention they are painful. Protect your family from dangerous rays this summer with these five tips.

1. Make sunscreen part of your get-ready routine

Don't just slap on sunscreen when you are already out at the beach. Make sunscreen part of your everyday routine. Before leaving the house this summer make sure everyone puts sunscreen on their face and any part of their body that will be exposed. Try these sunscreens for the body:

When it comes to applying sunscreen on the face, try a product more suitable for delicate skin:

2. Don't forget to reapply your Sunscreen

Putting on sunscreen is not just a one-time thing. Make sure everyone reapplies their sunscreen no matter what activity they are doing. Sunscreen should be reapplied every two hours. Try using a sunscreen stick, powder, or spray to avoid using dirty hands and for easy application anywhere.

3. Wear a hat to protect the scalp

The top of the head is often forgotten when thinking about protecting the skin from the sun. It can be messy to apply sunscreen to your scalp especially if you have a lot of hair. Sunhats aren't only fashionable, they're also functional.

4. Find some shade

Avoid staying directly in the sun for long periods of time. The shade will provide an escape from the sun and a place to cool down in the heat. If you're spending a day at the beach, bring an umbrella or tent to get away from the sun for a few minutes. At the park find a bench under a tree. The shade will not protect you from the sun alone, but it will help.

5. Have aloe vera ready

It can be easy to forget to wear sun protection. If someone gets sunburned be ready to have aloe gel or lotion to help soothe the sensitive burn. Although a cool bath can help alleviate some pain, aloe vera will be your best friend when treating sunburn. Aloe vera has anti-inflammatory properties and will provide moisture to the skin. Use a gel or lotion to help cool down the burning sensation and provide relief as you heal.

Sunburn can ruin any great summer day. Sunscreen should be one of your most important items this summer. A sunburn can happen in as little as 11 minutes so it pays off to be prepared. Enjoy this summer sunburn free!
